Hello World!

by Haris Krajina, Founder

Hi, I'm Haris, founder of Pythagora North, and I'm thrilled to embark on this journey with you through this blog and agency. With many years of experience as a software developer and entrepreneur, I've dedicated my career to crafting software with the goal of creating simple and innovative software, achieving various degrees of success over the years. What has changed lately is that the landscape of software development has evolved dramatically, especially in the last 5 years, with innovative tools significantly lowering the barriers to creating exceptional software. I am starting this agency with a clear focus on capitalizing on those possibilities, focusing on creating quality and innovative solutions that are simple to use and maintain.

AI Augmentation

The AI gold rush has been evident for some time now, and we've seen many startups entering the race. However, I've noticed a lack of smaller companies focused on the other side of the coin - AI augmentation. By this, I mean the standard SaaS development that utilizes AI to empower some of its features. A good example would be the natural language processing (NLP) of documents. Just a year ago, this task would have required a team of engineers with very complex code to handle multiple formats, different edge cases, and so on. Today, it can be accomplished with just a simple prompt.

Now, imagine the cost savings we're talking about here, and the agility of introducing such a feature. It's simply amazing to shave off months of development and hundreds of thousands of dollars in development and ongoing maintenance costs. All of this can be implemented by one person in one day. This is the future of software development, and it's what we're focusing on: creative solutions focused on simplicity and innovation. And as AI tools like ChatGPT become better, this will only become more and more true.

Focus on Quality

Anyone who has had the chance to develop software solutions has encountered the challenge of reaching an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) while not compromising on the quality of the solution. Most of us who have faced this battle have lost, caving into the pressures of prioritizing functionality over quality. Understandably, this approach to the dilemma might seem reasonable at first. If a product does not find market fit, no one will care how delightful the solution was.

However, what I've noticed is that this MVP focus often does not stop at the MVP stage. It becomes a culture—a culture of "good enough" and "we will fix it later." This mindset is a trap that is very hard to escape from. I believe this is why so many companies find themselves stuck in the same place for years. They fall into the trap of technical debt, poor user experience, and weakened brand identity because they never had the time to fix these issues. They never had the time because they allowed a culture of mediocrity to take over. These companies often find excellence elsewhere but rarely in the product they are selling.

In the end, this trap costs much more than people realize. It affects churn, onboarding costs, development costs, brand reputation, and more. It's a significant toll, and frankly, it's not worth it. We do not want to build mediocre solutions, for the simple reason that we understand their lack of value. I want to be very open about this part of our mission, as I wish to work with clients who agree on this point.

Pythagora North's Mission

Our mission is straightforward, as is the work we do. "Excellence through simplicity" is our guiding principle.

We aim to demonstrate that quality, innovation, and rapid development can coexist without conflict. We believe that the secret to accelerating software development fundamentally lies in simplicity. Our goal is to cultivate a culture of 'reducers'—individuals adept at distilling complex challenges into simple, innovative, and delightful solutions.

Ideas are abundant, as are solutions. Speak to any engineer about your problem, and you're likely to receive a solution on the spot. That's what we excel at. However, what distinguishes exceptional product builders is their ability to see the big picture and all the small pieces that comprise a solution, finding solutions that are simple yet effectively address the problem. Big problems don't necessarily need big solutions, and they certainly can't be devised instantaneously. I want this agency to be home to individuals who continuously simplify the solution until quality, innovation, and speed are achieved.

This task is undeniably challenging, yet it's a journey I find immensely rewarding. The current technological landscape presents a plethora of tools that, when utilized by a skilled team proficient in engineering, design, and branding, can make the seemingly impossible achievable. We believe in establishing a standard that refuses to compromise on quality, embracing the idea that maintaining an impeccable record motivates everyone to uphold these values. That is the culture we aim to foster.

Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. I'm excited to see where this journey takes us, and I am happy and grateful for the opportunity to embark on it. To conclude, I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes, which perfectly encapsulates how I and this agency will operate.

I want everything we do to be beautiful. I don‘t give a damn whether the client understands that that‘s worth anything, or that the client thinks it‘s worth anything, or whether it is worth anything. It‘s worth it to me. It‘s the way I want to live my life. I want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares.
